Situated on the charming Quai Job Foran in the heart of Saint-Martin-de-Ré, LE TOUT DU CRU - ILE DE RE is a seafood lover’s haven that delivers an authentic taste of the Atlantic coast. This intimate seafood restaurant expertly captures the fresh, briny flavors of the sea with a focus on the island’s renowned oysters and succulent shellfish, making it a destination well worth seeking out.
The menu is a treasure trove for anyone craving the freshest catch. Their oysters, sourced straight from the island of Ré, come in a delightful range of sizes and varieties, from the petite Huîtres fines de Ré n°4 at €7.00 to the generously sized Huîtres fines de Ré n°2 at €12.00. For those looking for something truly exceptional, the special David HERVE and Yves PAPIN oysters offer a uniquely sweet, tender, and richly flavored experience that embodies the best of regional finesse.
Beyond oysters, the selection of crustaceans is equally impressive. Indulge in the plump, cooked pink prawns served with creamy house-made mayonnaise, or savor the perfectly prepared langoustines, a favorite among regulars despite some mixed feelings from first-timers. The demitourteau and demihomard breton further showcase the kitchen’s dedication to high-quality, fresh seafood prepared with expert care.
Atmospherically, LE TOUT DU CRU exudes a cozy, bistro vibe that is both welcoming and intimate. Tucked just off the bustling center by a mere 20 meters, it offers a quieter, relaxed dining experience where attentive, friendly service is a hallmark. Diners appreciate the warmth of the staff, who go out of their way to create a comfortable and unrushed meal—an invaluable touch for solo diners or small groups alike.
Guests delight in the combination of fresh flavors and spirited service. “The seafood platter was absolutely delicious and super fresh,” shares Victor Celma, who also praises the staff’s kindness and genuine hospitality. John Stout celebrates not only the food but also the playful challenge of cracking a half crab with provided tools, and recommends the café gourmandise—a dreamy coffee paired with miniature desserts that provide a sweet crescendo to an already memorable meal.
While the space may feel cozy and the tables on the smaller side, this works in tandem with the quirky charm of the restaurant, encouraging sharing and lively conversation. The ambiance radiates the casual sophistication expected of a classic French bistro specializing in the sea, with the freshness of every dish reinforcing the authentic maritime character.
For oyster aficionados like Amanda Pucheu, the blend of fresh, tasty oysters and herb-infused shrimps creates an unforgettable dining adventure, heightened by knowledgeable and passionate service. Whether you’re seeking a quick take-away of premium oysters or a leisurely plated experience, LE TOUT DU CRU - ILE DE RE promises a sincere and delectable celebration of seafood that stays true to the flavors of the island.
In summary, this quaint seafood restaurant is a hidden gem offering superb local seafood, a warm ambiance, and a service style that makes you feel both important and at home. We enjoyed the meal, particularly the smoked fish pie & clams. We were a little disappointed with the langoustines we ordered. We ordered 3 dishes to share but found the table was very small for this. It's a quirky restaurant, with a lovely atmosphere.

I went to eat alone today and had an excellent experience. I ordered a seafood platter and it was absolutely delicious and super fresh. But what really made the difference was the service. I do not know their names but they both were incredibly friendly and attentive, and even stayed a bit later so I could finish eating without feeling rushed. If I'm ever back to the town, I'll definitely go there once again.

We loved this restaurant. The staff were brilliant and the food out of this world. If you have the half crab be prepared to work for it with the tools provided. The cafég gourmandise (coffee plus mini versions of all the desserts on the menu) is an experience you won't forget in a hurry. From the reviews on knapkins hanging up in the loo we were not alone in our appreciation!

Nice French Bistro specialized in sea food. The seafood platter was very, so were the garlic and parsley shrimps. Atmosphere as you want it for a French Bistro. Not much for kids on the menu.

We got a dozen oysters and the shrimp with parsley. The oysters were fresh, a good size, and delicious. The shrimp with parsley were also great! The aromatics used in cooking them really give a delicious flavor. Service was also very friendly and helpful. They answered our questions about the oysters sizes and flavor profiles. We loved it here, will definitely be back!
